Former Pakistan manager denies masterminding plot against Younis

Lahore, Tue, 27 Oct 2009 ANI

Lahore, Oct 27(ANI): Former Pakistan cricket team manager Yawar Saeed has denied reports that he had tried to oust Younis Khan as the skipper and bring in Shahid Afridi in his place.

"This is a totally wrong impression that I was trying to get Afridi appointed as captain after the ICC Champions Trophy," The Daily Times quoted Saeed, as saying.

"Younis is respected as captain and gets along well with the other players," he added.

Saeed also dismissed reports that his failure to achieve his campaign had eventually cost him his job.

"The fact is that I had informed Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ijaz Butt after the Sri Lanka tour that I would not be able to continue as manager due to domestic commitments," he added.

Younis briefly quit captaincy after he was accused of match-fixing in the Champions Trophy semi-final against New Zealand.

He was reinstated as the captain after the Pakistan Cricket Board bowed to his demand of making him skipper of the side till the World Cup 2011. (ANI)
