White wine can cut IVF success

London, Wed, 21 Oct 2009 ANI

London, Oct 21 (ANI): Just a few glasses of white wine a week can reduce women's chances of a successful IVF, according to a new study.

What's more, men can reduce their hopes of fathering a child if they enjoy a daily beer, the study added.

The research, by boffins at Harvard Medical School in the US, also claimed that couples where both partners drink six units a week cut their chance of a live birth by 26 per cent.

To reach the conclusion, researchers asked 2,574 couples how much they drank and what type of alcohol they liked just before they embarked on IVF, reports The Independent.

Brooke Rossi, who led the study, said men and women who each had six units a week or more "significantly reduced their likelihood of pregnancy".

The figures were presented at the American Society for Reproductive Medicine conference in Atlanta, Georgia. (ANI)
