STORY: Visiting Argentine President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner met Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at New Delhi on Wednesday (October 14).
After the formal talks, India and Argentina also signed nine agreements pertaining to sports, science and technology, industrial research, hydrocarbons, trade promotion.
Amongst the agreements signed was a pact on business visas signed by Indian Foreign Minister Somanahalli Mallaiah Krishna and his Argentine counterpart Jorge Taiana.
India's junior minister for Science and Technology, Prithviraj Singh Chauhan and his Argentine counterpart signed another agreement on cooperation in science and technology, spread over three years between 2009 and 2011
President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner has led a high-level delegation that includes the country's Foreign Minister and a large business delegation.
Bilateral trade between India and Argentina is worth 1.2 billion dollars a year and India is Argentina's second most important trade partner in Asia after China.
Kirchner is in India on three-day visit to enhance bilateral relations and trade between the two countries. She is also scheduled to meet Vice President Hamid Ansari and Sonia Gandhi, chief of country's federal ruling Congress party later in the day.
Her visit has taken place coinciding with 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between India and Argentina.
This is also the first Presidential visit from Argentina in 15 years. The last visit was by President Menem in 1994.
The last visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Argentina was in 1995 by PV Narasimha Rao for the G-15 Summit.
