New Delhi, Oct 14 (ANI): Sanjana Jon, sister of convicted fashion designer Anand Jon, lent her support to 'Save the Girl Child' campaign in India.

Sanjana, who is in India to participate in the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week beginning October 24 in New Delhi, roped in young celebrities for a calendar photo shoot for the campaign.

Standing on the lawns of the India Gate in early morning, Jon and other celebrities like tennis player Tania Sachdev, posed for photographs with the children.

"We are all here actually supporting the girl child. Through fashion, we want to show that young icons of India are stepping forth to support the unborn girl child," said Sanjana.

Despite laws banning tests to determine the sex of an unborn child, the killing of female foetuses continues in some regions of the country.

Activists say female foeticide is rising because of the availability of technologies like ultrasonography and amniocentesis to determine the gender of foetuses at the request of the parents. If the foetus is found to be a girl, it is aborted.

As a result, the government says around 10 million girls have been killed by their parents-either before or immediately after birth-over the past 20 years. (ANI)
