Nagpur, Oct 11 (ANI): Congress Party President Sonia Gandhi has blamed the opposition for playing divisive politics in Maharashtra.
Gandhi, who was addressing a public rally here on Saturday, charged the opposition with trying to fulfil their narrow interests in the name of religion, region and language.
"The people who are playing regional politics, fulfilling their interests in the name of religion and language, I want to ask them what will they achieve after spreading this hatred? Nothing would be gained, where do they want to take the country?" she asked.
The Congress- NCP led Democratic Front, have been ruling the state for the past 10 years.
In the October 13 elections the Congress will contest 174 seats while the NCP will contest 114 seats.
In the 2004 assembly polls, the Congress contested 157 of the 288 seats and the NCP fought for 127 seats, leaving the rest to allies. The Congress won 69 seats while the NCP got 71.
In the April-May Lok Sabha elections, the Congress contested 25 of the 48 seats in the state and won 17, while the NCP won only eight of the 21 seats it contested. (ANI)
