Tibetans, supporters stage protest demo in Delhi(update)

New Delhi, Thu, 01 Oct 2009 ANI

New Delhi, Oct 1 (ANI): Hundreds of activists of Bharat-Tibet Sahayog Manch along with Tibetan refugees staged a protest demonstration against Chinese aggression on Tibet here on Thursday.

The protest was organised on the occasion of China's 60th National Day Celebrations.

The Tibetan refugees and their Indian supporters heralded their lire against the Chinese Communist regime by holding banners, placards and Tibetan flags.

Tibetan Monk Yashi Phenzuk said: "The communists are celebrating their 60th National Day, but there has been no change in the situation of Tibetans and citizens of China there. It's just that they are celebrating a number and they are showing their powers to the world. But unhappy citizens by themselves depict that there are no benefits for people there."

China has been accused of ruling Tibet with an iron fist after occupying it in 1950 after a failed uprising.

It has controlled Tibet since People's Liberation Army troops marched into the region in 1950 and Beijing considers Tibet as an integral part of its territory.

Critics had accused China of repressing Tibetans' religious aspirations, especially their veneration for the Dalai Lama, the exiled spiritual leader who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989. (ANI)
