BJP wants an integrated plan to tackle Maoists

Raipur, Thu, 01 Oct 2009 ANI

Raipur, Oct 1 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Rajnath Singh has said that Congress-led central government should work out on an "integrated action plan" to tackle the scourge of Maoists in the country.

Talking to reporters here on Wednesday, Singh said, "The Naxal menace had become the biggest internal security problem in the country and ime had been wasted to take action against the rebels."

"I want to again appeal to the Congress-led UPA government that they should have an integrated action plan to tackle the Naxalites. There has been a delay, which should not have happened. Even the Prime Minister has agreed that Maoists pose the biggest internal security threat," he added.

Singh was on a one-day visit to the state. He flew to Lohandiguda to console the family members of BJP Member of Parliament (MP) from Bastar Baliram Kashyap.

Kashyap's two sons were attacked by armed guerrillas at a temple on September 26, in which Tansen, 33, succumbed to bullet injuries and his brother Dinesh was injured.

At least six Maoists, armed with bow and arrows, attacked the duo when they were offering family prayers at their village Bedaguda. They shot at the brothers from a close range.

Chhattisgarh in the past few months has witnessed a lot of Maoist attacks with the State government seeking more forces and resources from the centre. (ANI)
