Consider nuclear energy to overcome power shortage: Pranab

New Delhi, Sep 29(ANI): Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee n Tuesday said that India should consider nuclear energy as a ource to overcome power shortage and fuel economic growth.

 

Mukherjee said this while addressing an international conference n 'Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy' in the national capital.

 

"Our all requirement of energy will only be met by considering uclear and non-conventional resources," Mukherjee said.

 

"Quality power is essential requirement for growth, our onventional sources are not at all adequate to achieve the esired energy output in terms of electricity generation," he dded.

 

He further said that the overexploitation of conventional esources could impact on the environment in a killing manner. ukherjee also released commemorative coins on Homi Bhabha, the architect of the country's nuclear programme.

 

Meanwhile, Atomic Energy Commission Chairman Anil Kakodkar said India is set to play an important role in growth of the nuclear ector after its re-entry in global nuclear trade. (ANI)
