A school bus carrying around 30 children suffered high casualties on Thursday after the bus fell into the Palguni River near Mangalore. At least 11 bodies have been recovered so far and the rescue efforts are still on for the search of drowned children.
The accident occurred in the early hours of the morning when the driver of the mini bus lost his control due to heavy water logging on the road and the bus crashed into the river.
Police rescued 11 people including 10 children and rushed to hospital, but others are still missing and the chances of their survival are less with the passage of time.
This kind of accidents is not uncommon in many parts of India, especially in rural areas due to the ignorance of government and the roadways authority.
The Karnataka government has announced a compensation of Rs 1 lakh to the families of each deceased in the accident.
