Lahore, Aug. 9 (ANI): Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Asif will have to prove his physical fitness on Sunday before being considered for the ICC Champions Trophy.

The 26-year-old pacer, whose career had plummeted after he failed a dope test during the Indian Premier League's (IPL) inaugural season, is hoping to find a place in Pakistani team after serving a one-year ban imposed by the PCB.

The ban will be waived on September 22, the same day when the Champions Trophy starts in South Africa.

Chief selector Iqbal Qasim has instructed two selection committee members - Mohammad Ilyas and Azhar Khan - to conduct a fitness test for Asif at the Aligarh ground, Model Town in a club match, The Dawn reports.

The PCB had already included Asif's name in the preliminary list of 30 probables for the Champions Trophy.

The new selection committee, which took charge on August 1, has decided to first examine the bowler's fitness level before considering him for national duty. (ANI)
