Bhubneshwar/ Ahmedabad, June 18 (ANI): Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad on Thursday said that the H1N1 'swine flu' virus is totally under control in India as, out of 35 cases reported, 12 have already been cured.
Azad said that due to the effective precautionary measures taken by the Union Government, extend of H1N1 virus has been brought under control.
Following reports of the dangerous virus, screening of international passengers had been put in place at all entry points to the country, including airports and sea ports.
"Swine flu is totally under control. With the size and population of our country, 35 cases are negligible and at the moment 12 have already been discharged and the rest 23 are undergoing treatment at various hospitals," said Azad.
Azad also said that in the United States, whose population is almost one fourth of India, around 18,000 cases of swine flu have been reported as compared to India's 35 cases.
Meanwhile, another case of suspected swine flu was reported from Gujarat on Thursday.
Doctors at V S Hospital in Ahmedabad have admitted a woman after she reported symptoms of swine flu.
"A patient has reported at V S Hospital with sore throat, cough and nasal discharge and the doctors have put the patient at special isolation room suspecting swine flu," said Dilip Mahajan, Deputy Municipal Commissioner of Ahmedabad.
He added that the patient's blood and throat swab samples have been sent to National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) in New Delhi for confirmation. (ANI)
