Indians sparkle in junior boxing championships

New Delhi, May 26 (IANS) Indian boxers surged ahead in the World Junior championships with three more making it to the quarterfinals in Yerevan, Armenia.

 

Kuldeep (57 kg), Shiva Thapa (52 kg) and Vikas Khatri (54 kg) won their pre-quarterfinal bouts Tuesday to join Gaurav Bhiduri (48 kg), Namit Bahadur (50 kg) and Sandeep (46 kg) in the last eights.

 

 

Kuldeep defeated Andrei Mikhailov of Belarus 9-8 in a tight clash and will now take on Georgia's Aleko Chadashvilli.

 

 

Khatri got the better of Poland's Przemyslaw Runowski 8-2 to set-up a fight with China's Yang Zhang.

 

 

Thapa (52 kg) outplayed Ukraine's Yuriy Shestak 9-2 and will next Israel's Makhlin Stanislav.

 

 

Mandeep Jangra (60 kg) was India's lone loser, going down 1-2 to Lithuania's Ricardas Kuncaitis.
