Recent Mongolia Events and Developments
In 2004 January Russian government cancels $300 million debt of Mongolia.
In 2004 June-August In the general elections no party emerged as the clear winner and on the basis of a power-sharing basis Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj was appointed as the prime minister.
In 2005 March-April People held major street protests against the official corruption and failures of government to implement poverty eradication programmes effectively.
In 2005 May Nambaryn Enkhbayar, candidate of the Mongolian People's Revolutionary Party (MPRP) became the president after winning the presidential election.
In 2006 January The ruling coalition government headed by Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj falls after the MPRP pulls out its support to the government. MPRP blames government for the slow economic growth. Miyeegombo Enkhbold was elected as the new prime minister by MPRP.
In 2007 November Sanj Bayar MPRP leader became the Prime after Minister Enkhbold's resignation.
In 2008 July President Enkhbayar declared an emergency in which five people died and hundreds were injured. The protest became violent after the opposition accused the government of fabricating the election results.
