Recent Happenings and Developments in Micronesia
In 1991 Micronesia becomes the member of United Nations.
In 1999 Micronesia initiated dialogue with US in order to renew its Compact of Free Association that would expire in 2001.
In 2002 July The Chata'an typhoon over the Chuuk islands killed dozens of people.
In 2003 compact agreement with US was signed by the Micronesia and Marshall Islands for 20 years that will provide the assistance of $3.5 billion.
In 2004 April State of emergency is declared over the Yap Island after it was ruined by Typhoon Sudel. Almost all the infrastructures of the Yap Island are destroyed by this typhoon.
