Recent Political and Economic Developments in Guinea
In the year 2007 January, there was a riot against President Conte?s policies, which resulted in clash between demonstrators and the costing many people their lives. To quell the rebellion the Guinea President declared emergency in the month of February and gave his order to the military unions to bring order to the country in the aftermath of the violent protests.
In 2007 February, Lansana Kouyate was declared the prime minister by the President under the condition of putting an end to the general public strike. Also, in the month of May there was again an aggressive agitation caused by the soldiers demanding for a hike in their regular pays.
In 2007 August, the Guinean government agencies discovered new Uranium mines, which would further help in commercial purposes.
In the year 2008 December, Guinea came under the control of military immediately after the demise of the President Conte. However, this step was largely disapproved by other countries while the Guineans supported this step taken by the army.
