Yemen is Dealing with Protests
The people of Yemen have been inspired by recent events in Egypt and Tunisia to try and protest and revolt against the current government. The protests are being held as a result of a number of different problems around Yemen. However, it is not clear as to whether or not these protests are going to end up working.
The people of the country have been protesting against the current rule in the country. A good part of this deals with the substantial unemployment rate in the country and the large number of cases of people losing money due to unemployment. The lack of employment and the falling economy in Yemen have caused nearly half the people in the country to be below or near the poverty line. This has caused people in Yemen to protest against their government.
Also, there are concerns about corruption in the government. This is in spite of the country holding democratic elections to determine who their leaders will be. These elections are being held every few years but are believed to be influenced by other factors beyond the people.
The protests in Yemen are mostly in the capital city of Sana'a. This is located on the western part of the country. Some protests have moved into the other outlying cities of Yemen. These include notable places like As Salif and Sa'dah.
The goal of protesters is to ask that president Ali Abdallah Salih can be removed from office immediately. However, protests that began in the early part of 2011 have not been making progress in recent months. In fact, a good number of protestors in the country have been killed during the process. Some international efforts are being held as a means of trying to get a resolution prepared but it is unclear as to whether or not these will work.
