More detail about Saint Lucia

Saint Lucia Has Changed Possession Many Times

Saint Lucia is one of the most prized islands around the Caribbean Sea and North Atlantic Ocean. The competition for Saint Lucia was extreme for much of time before Saint Lucia declared its independence.

France took control of Saint Lucia back in 1660. England then controlled the island in 1663. The two countries ended up going into war with each other many times in order to try and control Saint Lucia. The country had been a neutral territory for a few points in time through agreements between the French and British. However, competition between the two continued to go along. Saint Lucia switched hands fourteen times during this period of competition.

The British took full control of Saint Lucia in 1814. The British would eventually allow Saint Lucia to control itself in the twentieth century. Saint Lucia has since become an independent nation. It declared its independence in 1979.

The key reason why Saint Lucia had been such a highly contested place comes from how it is a land that is incredibly prolific with regards to crops. The island is noted for being a predominant home for sugar production. Bananas and other types of fruits are also found in Saint Lucia. These are all used as a means of helping to support the economy of t he island.

Interestingly enough, there are many different types of economic factors that the British and French never thought about when fighting over Saint Lucia. The most notable point involves the substantial tourist industry that Saint Lucia has. Some manufacturing plants have been established around Saint Lucia as well.

Of course, there are some hurricane concerns to see. Saint Lucia is located in the middle of a part of the ocean where hurricanes can occur and form. This has become a point that has impacted the local economy in some cases over the years.
