The Theme Of 26th Suraj Kund Craft Fair

Every year the theme of Suraj Kund Craft Fair is based on any of the state of India, this year it's the state of Assam.

The 26th Suraj Kund Craft Fair started today on February 1, 2012, in Suraj Kund, a town in the out skirts of Faridabad Haryana. It will last for two weeks ending on February 15, 2012. It's a fair where the renowned craftsmen of India and of the world showcase finest handloom and handicraft work.

Suraj Kund Craft Fair started in 1987, and since then is held every year. It is now acknowledged world over. Last year only, Suraj Kund Craft Fair Association recorded a footfall of 7.5-lakh visitors, which they are expecting to reach 10 lakh this year.

This year Thailand is selected as the partner of this fair which was also the Chief Guest in Republic Day Celebration. Other than Thailand, SAARC countries, Uzbekistan, Kyrgystan and Congo are participating as well.

Theme State: Assam

Home of the Son of lord Brahma or Brahmputra, Assam is said to be the Gateway to the North East India. From epic monuments to enduring temples, sparkling sculptures, rich heritage, awe-inspiring festivals and a mixture of diverse cultures, every thing about this state is unique and attracting.

Assam will depict its characteristic colors, rituals, architecture, artwork and decorations at the entrance to the Mela grounds.

There will also be a cultural performance by Assam on February 1, 2012 and February 13, 2012.

The other culture programs that will take place are:

  1. Cultural Performance by Assam (1st February 2012)
  2. Medley by Foreign Cultural troupes Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgystan & Congo (2nd February 2012)
  3. Fashion Show on Khadi (3rd February 2012)
  4. Fusion of traditional and western/contemporary dance and music by Dinesh Yadav, NSD (5th February 2012)
  5. Hasya Kavi Samelan by Dinesh Raghuvanshi (7th February 2012)
  6. Blend of Fusion Kathak (8th February 2012)
  7. Qawali by Niami Bandhu (10th February 2012)
  8. Band and Rock by Padamjeet Sherawat (12th February 2012)
  9. Azaadi The Band (14th February 2012)
  10. Closing Ceremony (15th February 2012)

Cultural programs will start from 6pm and will go on till 10pm. However, the Fair entry is from 9:30am in the morning till 7pm in the evening.

400 and more renowned crafts men have taken a halt in Suraj Kund to showcase their finest handicraft and handloom work.

This year's highlight of Suraj Kund Crafts Fair is an "Apna Ghar", which will depict Haryana's culture, themes and atmosphere.

Crafts and art lover would not like to miss this chance of seeing a huge variety of talent stacked at one place. They can see the artwork whole day, buy some and in the evening can look forward to awesome cultural programs.

Just 8 kms away from New Delhi, Suraj Kund can be reached through busses arranged specially for this fair. These busses can be boarded from New Delhi.
