Cancer and Ayurveda

Cancer is one of the most deadly diseases of present centuries which accounts for millions of deaths across the globe and has emerged as one of the common concern and challenge for the clinical experts all over the world. Though, the modern medicinal system is working on continuation to resolve the mystery of cancer treatment but an absolute cure for cancer is still to be found out in modern medicine.

Ayurveda is the ancient Indian medicinal system , which uses various plants and herbal preparations for the prevention and cure of various diseases has successfully deployed natural drugs for prevention and suppressing the growth of cancerous tumors from ancient times and has emerged as a new hope for the cancer patients fto combat the disease.

Ayurvedic view of cancer

According to the ancient texts of ayurveda , .i.e. Charaka sanhita and Sushruta Sanhita, cancer has been described as Granthi (minor neoplasm) and Arbuda (major neoplasm), which are the types of inflammatory or non-inflammatory swellings. Ayurveda defines three factors for the proper functioning of body systems, which are vata, pitta and kapha. To remain healthy, it is very important to maintain a proper balance between all the three doshas (tridoshas) as any imbalance in these doshas can affect the normal functioning of the body system

As far as ayurvedic view of cancer is concerned, ayurveda has different perspectives for both types of cancer .i.e. benign and malignant cancer. In case of benign cancer, there is an inbalance of one or two dosha in the body and hence not so harmful as this can be prevented by maintain the balance of the vitiated dosha through ayurvedic medications. However, in Malignant tumors, all the three doshas in the body lacks coordination and hence become unable to prevent the damage of tissues resulting in a deadly condition.

Ayurvedic treatment of Cancer

Ayurvedic treatment of cancer lays emphasis on the proper pre-treatment examination of the body of the patient to find out the condition of the coordination of the doshas in the body to find out the actual cause of the disease. Once the root cause of the occurrence of the disease is identified through proper examination, the treatment of cancer is then decided accordingly depending upon the reason of the disease. Among the methods of ayurvedic treatment of cancer Panchakarma is one of the most effective methods used in ayurveda which includes therapies like uses oil massage, sweat treatment, emesis, enema, nasal application of herbal remedies and blood-purification and proves to be quite effective. Moreover, ayurveda suggests healthy and proper diet for cancer patients, which helps in maintaining a proper balance between the doshas in the body. Ayurvedic medicines and preparations are made with the help of various herbs and plant extracts which possess tremendous healing abilities.
