'Mayawati is scared of Bharatiya Janata Party': Shahnawaz Hussain

New Delhi, Sun, 27 Nov 2011 ANI

New Delhi, Nov. 27 (ANI): Hitting out at Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Shahnawaz Hussain on Sunday said that she was scared of the people's response his party was getting during its rallies and tour campaigns in the state.

"Mayawati is scared of the Bharatiya Janata Party due to people's repose it got during its rallies and tour-campaigns. That is why she bitterly attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party today. At Centre (Central Government), Mayawati's party and Mulayam Singh's party are in league with the Congress Party," Hussain told mediapersons here.

He also questioned the similar stance taken by Mayawati and Congress Party on the issue of black money parked in foreign banks.

"Why is Congress' leader and BSP are exasperated on issue of black money? Why are they nervous on the issue of black money? Why has Behenji (Mayawati) spoken in detail on the issue of black money today? The stand of Congress and Mayawati is similar on the issue of black money," added Hussain.

He alleged that Mayawati remembered the people of Uttar Pradesh only when elections are around the corner.

"When elections are around the corner Mayawati remembers minorities, when elections are around then she remembers Brahmins, when elections are around the corner she remembers minorities backwards, she remembers 'Dalits' after the elections she is busy building parks and her statues," added Hussain.

Mayawati today said that the opposition party are scared of defeat in polls.

Addressing a massive rally in Lucknow, she said: "The opposition parties are having sleepless nights and as assembly elections of Uttar Pradesh are near, all these opposition parties don't have any other affair than criticising BSP."

Mayawati's victory in the 2007 assembly elections was hailed as a victory of social engineering, where high caste Hindu voters, the lower "Dalit" castes and Muslims were brought together to vote for her party, giving her a single-party majority.

Over the last two years, however, she has faced criticism for her extravagant birthday celebrations and for building parks with colossal statues of Dalit icons and leaders. The parks also boast of statues of Mayawati herself.

The elections in Uttar Pradesh are scheduled in the early part of 2012. (ANI)
