State wide shutdown in Punjab on 30th anniversary of 1984 anti-Sikh riots

New Delhi/ Ludhiana/ Amritsar, Nov 01 (ANI): A state wide shutdown has been called in Punjab on Saturday, on the 30th anniversary of 1984 anti-Sikh riots. Tainted leader of Congress party, Jagdish Tytler was accused of inciting mobs during the riots in which more than 3000 Sikhs were killed. The violence of 1984 was triggered by the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Earlier on Thursday, the government announced additional compensation of Rs. 5 lakh each to the next of kin of people who died in the massacre. Seeking punishment for the perpetrators of the riots, a protester Dilbagh Singh said the compensation has been provided to the victim families in Delhi only since the elections are approaching there, but what about the 30,000 families in Punjab who equally suffered in the riots.
