Srinagar bypolls: City records 6.5 percent voter turnout
Srinagar, Apr 09 (ANI): The polling concluded for by-election of Srinagar Lok Sabha seat at a low turnout of 6.5 percent which is 26 percent less than during the 2014 parliamentary election for the seat. Chief Electoral Officer Shantmanu said that the day wasn't promising as nearly 200 incidents of violence were recorded. The by-election witnessed massive clashes in which six persons were killed while hundreds of civilians and security forces and election staff members were injured. Nine candidates were in the fray for the Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency where more than 1,500 polling stations had been set up for nearly 12.61 lakh voters. Internet services were also snapped. Heavy security had been deployed at the polling stations to avoid any untoward incident.
