Researchers design new low-cost tool to detect bacteria in food, water

New Delhi, Apr 03 (ANI): Researchers from University of Massachusetts Amherst have designed a new low-cost method to detect bacteria in food and water samples. The bacteria-detecting chip can test bacterial load on water and food items like Spinach. The chip uses a light microscope for optical detection. The detection by the chip relies on silver nanoparticles. This new method is reliable as it does not interfere with the ingredients in the food sample. The tool is under patenting process. The findings by researchers were published in online issue of Food Microbiology.
