Protesters take to streets in Chennai against de-recognition of students group

Chennai, June 02 (ANI): A student body, Radical Students' Youth Front (RSYF), took to streets in Chennai city to protest against the de-recognition of a students' group by a premier institution, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, for allegedly criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s policies. Last week, the institution de-recognised the Ambedkar-Periyar Study Circle (APSC) for allegedly spreading hatred towards the central government by distributing provocative pamphlets and posters in the campus. The HRD ministry had forwarded an anonymous complaint to the institute, which alleged that the APSC was mobilising scheduled (lowest) caste and scheduled tribe students against the government's policies on the use of Hindi and the ban on beef.
