New drug for asthma could be more effective than inhalers
New Delhi, Feb 9 (ANI): A new hope for asthma patients as scientists from Rutgers New Jersey Medical School and Shanghai University claim to have developed a drug that is more effective and less harmful for asthma patients than commonly used inhalers. The scientists performed the newly developed drug test on mice and discovered that a protein known as metallothionein-2 (MT-2) can help in opening airways better than inhalers. After an examination with a large sample set, the researchers identified an MT-2-based drug called TSG12 which can relax airway and smooth muscle cell. It was also found that it was helpful in easing pulmonary resistance. The drug is non-toxic to human cells.
