Manipur celebrates Cheiraoba festival with devotion & fervour
Imphal/ Kolkata, April 15 (ANI): Residents in Manipur celebrated the Cheiraoba Festival heralding the Manipuri New Year with traditional devotion and fervour. Cheiraoba Festival usually takes place in the month of April. The name ‘Cheiraoba’ is a combination of two words - 'Chahi' meaning year and ‘Laoba’ to mean declaration, together ‘Cheirao-ba’ denotes the announcement of the coming year. Although this festival is mainly celebrated by Hindus, over the past couple of years, people from other communities in large numbers also take part in the celebrations. On this special day, thousands of people of different castes and communities climb the Cheiraoching and other hills of the state after a grand hefty feast with their family members and friends.
