India accords guard of honour to Myanmar Army chief

New Delhi, July 29 (ANI): The visiting Myanmar Army chief Senior General Min Aung Hlaing was accorded guard of honour on Wednesday (July 29) ahead of his talks with Indian leadership. He is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, Army Chief Dalbir Singh Suhag and National Security Adviser Ajit Doval during his visit. However, it was not known immediately when the meetings will take place. Hlaing’s visit comes in the backdrop of a rare operation by the armies of the two countries over the Myanmar border to hunt separatist rebels after they killed 20 soldiers in an ambush in Manipur last month. Myanmar denied any fighting had taken place on its soil and military experts in New Delhi said it would be harder to get Myanmar's support for further counter-insurgency actions. The two sides will also discuss increased bilateral military ties and better border management.
