Hundreds of evacuees from flood ravaged J and K board Indian Army vehicle to leave the place
Srinagar, Sep 19 (ANI): Hundreds of evacuees boarded Indian army vehicles to leave flooded region of Jammu and Kashmir. More than 75,000 people were still in partly submerged homes in Srinagar, where roads have been transformed into stagnant canals strewn with wreckage, trash and dead animals. The Indian army has deployed about 30,000 troops for rescue and relief operations and soldiers distributed 2,24,000 litres of water and food to survivors. A senior official of India's paramilitary Border Security Force (BSF), PV Sandhu, said they would urge the government to provide transportation facilities to the flood victims. The authorities also dug a tunnel to dewater the parts of the city and let water flow back into the Jhelum River or out of the city.
