Gujjar protest over 5% job quota ends in Rajasthan

Jaipur/ Sikandra, May 29 (ANI): The eight-day-long deadlock between Gujjar community and Rajasthan government came to an end after the government agreed to introduce a bill ensuring 5% quota for Gujjars and four other castes outside the legal limit of 50% overall reservation in government-run institutions. The communities would be given reservation as ‘Specially Backward Classes’ under a separate bill. A group of protesting Gujjar community leaders met a group of ministers, along with state Health Minister Rajendra Singh Rathore, in Jaipur on Thursday for final rounds of talks. The ordinance passed in Rajasthan Assembly will then be officially sent to central government and will be included in ninth schedule of Indian Constitution. The protesters have been blocking roads and railway tracks for the last one week.
