Diamond business in Gujarat hit due to quota agitation by Patel clan
Ahmedabad/Surat, August 30 (ANI): Diamond business was hit after clashes between police and the Patel clan, demanding reservation in government jobs and educational institutions, brought Gujarat to a standstill. Clashes spread in the state after police arrested a young leader of the influential Patel clan, Hardik Patel who led a huge rally on Tuesday (August 25) night. India's diamond polishing and cutting city of Surat came to a grinding halt as the diamond manufacturers and workers voluntarily participated in the rally on Wednesday and Thursday. President of the Surat Diamond Association, Dineshbhai Navadiya estimated a loss of nearly 1,000 crore (10 billion) rupees.
