Devotees throng Shiva temples to offer prayers as Shravan month begins
Ujjain /Varanasi, Aug 01 (ANI): Thousands of devout Hindus thronged Lord Shiva temples across India to offer special prayers as the holy month of Shravan began on Saturday. Devotees gathered in large numbers to offer milk, curd, honey and holy water to the idols of Lord Shiva in temples of Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh. Long queues of people waiting with an assortment of religious offerings like joss sticks, red vermilion and flowers were seen outside the temples. A priest in the Kashi Vishwanath temple of Varanasi, Shrikant Mishra, said that the everyday is important in the whole auspicious month. Kanwarias undertake a tedious foot journey to pilgrim centres of Haridwar, Gaumukh and Gangotri Uttarakhand to fetch holy waters of the river Ganges for their village temples. Saffron-clad devotees chanted religious hymns outside temples to please Lord Shiva.
