Correa accuses Britain of intolerable threat in Assange row

Loja, Aug 19 (ANI): Ecuador President Rafael Correa has accused Britain of an intolerable threat, amid the ongoing dispute over the case of Wikileaks founder Julian Assange. Assange remains inside the Ecuadorean embassy as the two countries argue over his status. Ecuador granted him asylum on August 16, but Britain has said it will not grant him safe passage out of the country. Correa further said that Ecuadors reason for granting Assange asylum was based on concerns of his extradition to the U.S., where he could potentially face death penalty for publishing thousands of U.S. diplomatic cables on WikiLeaks in 2010.
