Jog falls: a spectacular tourist destination

The Jog Fall falling from a height of 253 meters from the Sharavathi River is the highest plunge waterfall in India and one of the most important tourist destinations of the Karnataka. Situated in the Shimoga district of Karnataka,it is a major tourist attraction, which is located around 400 km from Bangalore.

It is the best nature headlong tumble as the Sharavati River makes a spectacular drop of 253 meters in four distinct cascades. Locally all the four cascades are known as Raja, Rani, Rover and Rocket, which creates the highest, falls in Asia. 

The eye catching and adventures Jog falls is gift of Sharavati River, which rises at Ambutirtha in the Tirthahalli taluk of Karnataka. River takes the northwesterly course by Fatte petta and takes right below Pattaguppe and Yenne Hole on the lift above Barangi. 

In the later stage, river bends to the west and precipitating itself down the Falls of Gersoppa and passing that village discharges into the sea at Honnavar in north Kannara. 

When to visit: The most favorable time to visit Jog Falls is in the Monsoon season, which appears from June to September. During this time the rain is in its peak and river remains in its full potential. During monsoon its beauty increases with arching rainbows coloring the mist. There are many bungalows on both sides of the falls and rock projecting over the verge of the gulf, which provide a beautiful view of the fall. The best view of the site is obtained of the appalling abyss from above, rendered more striking by the continual flight across it of myriads of rock pigeons. 

The Tourism Department has built steps from the viewpoint till the bottom of the hill. From the bottom of the hill, waterfall can be seen at the opposite site. There are approximately 1500 steps built to reach the bottom of the hill, which has made easy for the visitors at the site. 
Other places near location: There are many more important tourism destinations around the location are available including Agumbe, which is one of the highest peaks in Karnataka. Other eye-catching destinations are Sirsi, a hill station and Banavasi, an ancient temple town also situated in the location, which have historical and geographical importance.

By Road: Jog fall is connected with road and it is easy to reach the destination. It is located on National Highway number 206, which connects Honovar to Tumkur, which is well connected by road. 

Also Jog Fall is situated at 372 km from Bangalore and it is not difficult to reach at the destination. Sagar is also the best place to stay, as Jog Fall is about 30 km from here. Shimoga, which is the district headquarters, is also well connected by road from Mysore and Bangalore and bus is available in daytime to reach your destination. 

By Train: The nearest railway station is located at Talaguppa, which is 15 km, and nearest bus station at Sagar is about 30 km.

By Air: Hubli airport, which is 130 km from the Jog fall, is the nearest location if you are traveling from a domestic airline.
