International Dolls Museum has at present around 6,500 exhibits from almost 85 countries. All these dolls were collected either by Shankar when he traveled to different countries or were gifted by Nehru, Indira, Rajiv or several embassies and diplomatic missions.
This museum is divided in two halves or two sections, one shows dolls collected from Europe, the U.S., Australia, New Zealand and the other shows dolls collected from Asian countries, Middle East, Africa and India.
Brief History of Dolls Museum New Delhi
International Dolls Museum was setup by famous political cartoonist K Shankar Pillai.
Shankar got the idea of collecting dolls and displaying them when he received a gift from a Hungarian diplomat.
Later Indira Gandhi helped Shankar to set up an International Museum for Dolls and it was opened on November 30 1965.
