Preity was born on 31 January 1975 to father Durganand Zinta and mother Nilprabha in Rohru, Shimla. She has two brothers Deepankar and Manish
Her father died in a car accident when she was 13 years old.
She studied at Convent of Jesus and Mary, a boarding school in Shimla. She did her graduation in English honors and Psychology from St Bede's College in Shimla.
She started as a model and did some commercials, first one was for Perk chocolates.
Preity has acted in many Hindi, Telugu, Punjabi and English films. Zinta made her Bollywood debut from Dil Se along side Shahrukh Khan and Manisha Koirala. She was then seen in Soldier along side Bobby Deol.
