Kapil Sibal was born on 8 August 1948 in Jalandhar. He completed M.A and L.L.B from University of Delhi and L.L.M. from Harvard Law School. In 2004 he became MP from Chandni Chowk constituency.

He has previously held position of Ministry of Earth Sciences, Ministry of Science and Technology. He was also Additional Solicitor General from 1989-1990, Member of Rajya Sabha in 1998.

His first wife Nina Sibal died due to breast cancer. They have 2 sons Amit and Akhil. He remarried in 2005 to Promila Sibal.

He came into limelight when he introduced cheapest tablet of India Aakash.

He has also brought Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation system in IIT.
