In terms of popularity IPL has broken the many myth and opened a new horizon by connecting Bollywood, industrialists providing a new platform for cricket and money…in fact both.
The fate of newly produces T-20 format of Cricket could be in the grave of time, but certainly Indian Premier League (IPL) has made this an immortal. Of course opponents terms IPL as a Indian Paisa league, but in India where cricket is not only a sports but it has become a religion for the people, it has opened a new horizon where not only cricket but entertainment, glamour, adventure and money all are available with passion.
Although, the origin of IPL is full of controversy and quite interesting. First of all Indian Cricket League (ICL) was launched by Zee group which remained a flop show. In reply of ICL, then Vice President of the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) Lalit Modi envisioned the concept of IPL. He was inspired from the popularity of Football matches between the various clubs in Europe especially English Premiere League. The popularity achieved by the IPL in India was so significant that it was organised in South Africa when the Central govt. had refused to allow this during the general election in 2009.
The connection of Bollywood and Industrialist with Cricket is not new in India. But DLF IPL has open a new avenue for the Bollywood and industrialist to come together for a solid reason, certainly money, entertainment, glamour with Cricket.
After its launching in 2008, it has witnessed it four session in past. Now fifth session of the IPL is on board and cricket fever is likely to hit India in the chilly April to June.
