Euro 2012

2012 UEFA European Football Championship or popularly known as Euro 2012 went underway on 8 June 2012.

Euro football championship is organized every 4 years since 1960. This is the 14th European Championship organized by Union of European Football Associations (UEFA).

Final tournament featuring 16 nations will be played between 8 June and 1 July 2012 played across 8 venues: Warsaw: National Stadium Built for tournament Capacity: 50,000

  1. Gdansk: PGE Arena - Capacity: 40,000
  2. Wroclaw: Municipal Stadium - Capacity: 40,000
  3. Poznan: Municipal Stadium - Capacity: 40,000
  4. Kiev: Olympic Stadium - Capacity: 60,000
  5. Donetsk: Donbass Arena - Capacity: 50,000
  6. Kharkiv: Metalist Stadium - Capacity: 35,000
  7. Lviv: Arena Lviv - Capacity: 30,000

31 matches will be played during Euro 2012 out of which Ukraine will host 16 and Poland will host 15.

Qualification contest between 51 nations began in August 2010 and concluded in November 2011. (Host Nation Qualify directly) So other teams competed for 14 remaining places. Poland and Ukraine automatically got entry to the tournament.

The winner of EURO 2012 will gain direct entry to 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup to be held in Brazil.

The opening match was played between Poland and Greece, which resulted in 1-1 draw.
