Aung San Suu Kyi was born on 19 June 1945 in Rangoon. His father Aung San is called as father of Modern Burma. She from her childhood was very much in studies. She graduated from Lady Shri Ram College in New Delhi with a degree in politics in 1964 and B.A. degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics in 1969 from St Hugh's College, Oxford.

She remained house arrest for 15 long years and was denied visa and this was the reason she couldn't meet his dying husband Michael Aris and her children too.

She was awarded Nobel Prize in 1991. She used the money in establishing a health and education trust in Myanmar.

She was released from house arrest on 13 November 2010.
