Arundhati Roy

Here is all Arundhati Roy news, Arundhati Roy latest news, Arundhati Roy profile updates and Arundhati Roy biography you want to know.

In the recent times Arundhati Roy is almost a frequent feature in the latest news headlines. He takes the front page of latest news sometimes by her comment on Kashmir problem, sometimes by her political analysis on the Maoist problems or sometimes on the socio-economic issues relating to globalization or SEZ. Arundhati Roy is an Indian novelist who won the Booker prize for her outstanding literary work God of Small Things in the year 1997. She was born in Shilong, Meghalaya, a small state in the north eastern part of India. Different cultural descent and influence is evident in her family as she was the daughter of a Bengali tea planter and a Malayali Syrian women's right activist. She was brought up in Kerala and studied architecture in Delhi. Before her debut novel she has written two screenplays for television, though with these writings her future literary career could not be envisaged. With the publication of God of Small Things her prose style and literary depiction of intimate relational perspectives became the subject of international reputation and fame. In the following years that spanned more than a decade she became one of the most controversial and simultaneously acclaimed political as well as social commentators and one of the most critical political essayists of the country. His criticism of the paramilitary operation in Maoist rebel infested areas of India and his grave sympathy for the human right activism in the Naxalite infested areas made her role as a political commentator and activist immensely controversial and subject of debate. In spite of all these controversies and debates her reputation as agreat essayist and straightforward political speaker is hugely acclaimed across the nation. Latest news reveal that she is working on her novel that is likely to be published within a year or so.
