Named after German psychiatrist and neuropathologist Alois Alzheimer, this disease gets worse with time. It is found mostly in people above the age of 65. However, the disease is present in young people, the affects are seen when they get old.

Alzheimer's occurs because part of brain stops performing the way it has to.

This disease starts with mild memory loss, but gets worse in later stage. People start forgetting many things, daily routine, ability to talk, respond, etc.

The symptoms of Alzheimer's include difficulty in remembering recently learned information, suddenly forgetting familiar location, forgetting day-to-day work, getting trouble in understanding visual images, sudden problem in speaking and writing, etc. In sever stages bodily functions of a person are also lost.

There are 7 stages of Alzheimer's Disease:

  1. No impairment
  2. Very mild cognitive decline
  3. Mild cognitive decline
  4. Moderate cognitive decline
  5. Moderately severe cognitive decline
  6. Severe cognitive decline
  7. Very severe cognitive decline

The treatment of Alzheimer's includes:

  • Advanced medical imaging with computed tomography (CT)
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
  • Single-Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT)
  • Positron Emission Tomography (PET)

The diet for Alzheimer's patient includes food that are brain healthy. This diet includes the right balance of nutrients, protein and sugar that keep your brain healthy. Managing body weight for an Alzheimer's patient is also necessary. High Cholesterol and Fat food should be avoided. Include nuts like Almonds, walnuts, pecans, vegetables like spinach, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, beets, corn, etc in your diet.
