Sharadchandra Govindrao Pawar popularly known as Sharad Pawar in an eminent politician and industrial, who is also the President of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), a national political party and President of International Cricket Council (ICC), top international body of international level cricket. Sharad Pawar, who is at present Union Minister of Agriculture in the second term of United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government in the leadership of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, has already served his native state Maharashtra as being Chief Minister three times.

Sharad Pawar was born at Baramati, Pune in Maharashtra on 12th December 1940 in the family of Govindrao Pawar and Sharadbai Baramati. He graduated from Commerce stream and entered into the politics during his study. His first political act was when he organized a protest march for Goan Independence in Pravaranagar in 1956 while at large scale, he won an assembly election from his native place Baramati in 1967 and became a legislator. He won that election from undivided Congress Party, but he split from Congress for the first time in 1978 for being the Chief Minister of Maharashtra. Later, after dismissing his government in 1980 by erstwhile Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, he rejoined Congress party. He fought Lok Sabha election for the first time in 1984 from Baramati from Congress party and became MP, but he preferred to be Chief Minister and he resigned from his membership and again became the CM of Maharashtra in 1988.

Sharad separated from Congress in 1999 and founded his own party Nationalist Congress party and since then he is its Party President till date. Besides politics, he also served as President of Board of Cricket Council of India (BCCI), Indian top Cricket governing body from 2005 to 2008 and later became President of ICC.

He was married to Pratibha Pawar on 01st Aug, 1967 and the couple have a daughter Supriya Sule, who is also a politician and currently a MP.
