Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology is well known by its short name IGIB. The institute is situated in Delhi. The institute runs under Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). The institute focuses on the research of molecular medicine genomics and other things.
The IGIB of now was started in 1977 as a Center for Biochemical Technology. Primarily, the focus of the institute was limited to the biochemical research but later the focus of the institute was changed to integrative biology. Here it is important to understand, what are the prime areas in which Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology conducts research on.
The first area of research of the institute is genomics and molecular medicines. The second area of research of the institute is respiratory and disease biology. The institute has other focus areas like genome informatics and structural biology, energy and environmental biology and chemical and system biology. As it carry out research on respiration and disease biology the study on allergy is also in its ambit.
The IGIB has done same great work on the SARS virus by identifying some new genes of the SARS.
Apart from its main branch in Delhi the institute also has two other branches in Delhi.
