Khandmal in News: Khandmal, a district located in the heart of Orrisa, recently a center stage of news because macabre dance of death and terror which took more than 40 lives and made thousands homeless. A series of fatal clashes between Hindu & Christianity that is aftermath of deadly attack on 82 years Vedanta Keshari Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati on December 24. Although the Maoist took responsibility of this death, yet the followers of this religious icon orchestrated a deadly attack on tribal Christian with support from Vishwa Hindu Parisad (VHP). In a span of a month the Bajrang Dal (youth brigade and active wing of VHP) traumatized dalit Christians by slaughtering, looting and burning their homes. The Bajrang Dal led mob killed more than 40 people, looted and burned some 4.000 houses, and forced 50,000 Christians to run for their lives, - first into the forest, and eventually into refugee camps. Around 270 churches and prayer halls have been vandalised and burned, and 65 colleges, schools and Christian institutions were brought to dust. With the intervention of Para- military forces and Central Government, this boldly saga of Khandmal came to halt. This blood stained incident, damages the cohesion of Indian social fabric that is irreparable.
