The latest survey of TeamLease Services, India’s largest temporary staffing services has revealed that a large number of employees consider ‘there is nothing unethical in using office facilities for personal uses’ while 60 percent people lie while applying for leave and making tall promises to clients or customers.
Understanding the changing scenario at workplace in India, TeamLease Services has conducted a survey entitling ‘Nothing Ethical about Ethics’ in India’s eight largest cities New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad and Pune where it found the employees of Kolkata as most ethics follower who believe the ‘act of fudging the expenses report’ is absolute inappropriate. Kolkata have got top position in ethics index by registering 76 while Ahmedabad listed the worst by getting 21.
Releasing its fourth round of survey from the series of World of Work’ on Wednesday, TeamLease have found that nearly 45 per cent people in the corporate workforce don’t bat an eyelid while logging incorrect entry/exit times. Around 74% Ahmeadbadis have agreed on ‘nothing is wrong in this act’ while Kolkata, Delhi and Hyderabad has shown lots of honesty in this matter where an average of 78% were against it.
Around 46.8 per cent feel using the office telephone for personal long distance calls is okay while 51% Delhiites were strongly against it. Sixty percent people pretend ‘fake’ excuses for asking leave while 62 percent do their personal works during office hours.
Nearly 60 % overall respondents love to chatting in garb of 'networking' and assume as the most favourite pass in the office. Ahmedabad, Pune, Bangalore and Hyderabad have topped the list in this category by getting an average of around 70%.
‘Taking credit for subordinate's ideas’ is not unethical as Ahmedabad and Bangalore elaborate most, while rest of the cities were disagree of this act.
Except Kolkata where 67% of respondent were disagree with this fact, ‘Bribing in today's cut-throat business conditions has become an acceptable way of life’, most of the people feel no ashamed in it.
The most surprising thing emerged from this survey that one-third respondents in Bangalore, Delhi and Hyderabad were unaware of their company’s ethical policy, while those in Mumbai and Chennai were better informed on this count.
Responding over the means to check this unethical behaviour, the respondents from Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai felt that having open-lines of communication would help in reducing this behaviour while the employees of Delhities and Ahmedabadis believe flexible work schedules would restrict it.
For conducting the survey, the research team Synovate chose top 500 companies in India for a Sample size of 401 comprising all levels of men and women. They have asked the questions from a structured questionnaire which had been asked from telephones and computer-aided-telephones. Synovate has opted the duration of May and June for this survey.
