US denies Indian support to violence in Pak

New Delhi, Sat, 25 Apr 2009 NI Wire

The United States has denied any Indians’ involvement in violence in Pakistan. Richard Holbrooke, Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan under the Obama administration has said that there is no evidence that India is supporting miscreant activities in Pak.

The Daily Times quoted Holbrooke as saying, “If the Indians were supporting those miscreants in Pakistan that would be extraordinarily bad, really dangerous, but they are not doing so. There is no evidence that Indians are supporting miscreants in western parts of Pakistan or in Balochistan.”

He also said that if US had interest in helping Pakistan then it was vital for the US to have talks with China, India and Afghanistan as neighbours.

Pakistan doesn’t need to worry about India’s assistance to Afghanistan rather it has to be worried about miscreants and militants in its western parts, Holbrooke added while denying to answer a question on Kashmir issue by saying that his job is only related to Afghanistan and Pakistan.

He also denied US drone attacks were killing innocent people and proving counter productive, and also made US intention clear not to carry out drone attacks in Quetta.

Meanwhile, speaking about the safety of the country’s nuclear weapons Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has told that nuclear weapons are at safe place.

On the other side, US House of Representatives Appropriations Committee Chairman, Dave Obey told Secretary of State Hillary Clinton that he has no faith on Pakistan government, as its administration has so far failed to address the right issue in Pakistan.

He made these remarks on the White House's 83.4 billion dollar request to fund continued military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan and also to increase spending to build a closer tie with Pakistan.
