Islamabad, Apr.10 (ANI): Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari would sign the Swat peace deal only after peace and harmony returns in the region.
Talking to media persons here, Pakistan Information and Broadcasting Minister Qamaruz Zaman Kaira, made it clear that peace must be established in the valley before putting a stamp on the peace accord.
"The peace pact has been signed between the NWFP government and TNSM. Therefore, President Asif Ali Zardari will sign the Swat peace accord after prevalence of complete peace and serenity in Swat region," The Nation quoted Kaira, as saying.
Kaira said the federal government had accepted the demands of the Tehreek-e-Nafaz-e-Shariat-e-Mohammadi (TNSM) chief Sufi Muhammad to end military operations in the region, and now the Taliban must also lay down arms according to the deal.
Kaira admitted that the presence Afghani extremists in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) could not be ruled out.
"The Afghan government has no control on large area of its territory," he added.
Commenting on the Kashmir issue, Kaira said it was unavoidable to find a solution of the prolonged problem to establish cordial relation between both the neighbouring countries.
When enquired about Islamabad's concerns over New Delhi's increased involvement in the Afghan issue, Kaira said Pakistan wants all the important nations of the region to come together on the issue and find a way out.
"Pakistan has its own stance over the issues. It also wants the leading regional countries including China, India and Iran to wage collaborated efforts to resolve the situation in Afghanistan," he added. (ANI)
