Amid speculations and controversy over the ticket allotment, the Congress party on Saturday announced the name of 16 of 21 Lok Sabha candidates and 142 of 147 assembly seats in Orissa.
Former chief minister Giridhar Gomang (for Koraput) and Union Minister Chandra Shekhar Sahu (for Berhampur) along with two former Union ministers, Srikant Jena (for Balasore) and Ramchandra Rath (for Aska) have been included in the list.
To one’s surprise, PCC President K P Singhdeo has not been named so far from his home turf Dhenkanal district. Dhenkanal parliamentary constituency is also a debatable constituency as there are different individuals eying for tickets both for MP and MLA.
According to sources, if the Congress high command doesn’t field Deo as the Member of Parliament, he might be presented as the chief ministerial candidate in the assembly elections scheduled to be held concurrently with the Lok Sabha poll.
The party has, however, denied tickets to former chief minister Janaki Ballav Patnaik, though his son-in-law Soumya Ranjan Patnaik will contest from the Khandapada assembly constituency.
Orissa is going for Lok Sabha and assembly polls in two phases - April 16 and April 23.
