RJD MP Shahabuddin is awarded 10 years jail term

Aug 31: RJD MP Shahabuddin has been awarded 10 years imprisonment for attempt of murder along with his two body guards Jahangir and Khali.

Mohammed Shahabuddin was convicted on Thursday by a Bihar court for a murderous attack on the then superintendent of police of Sewan on May 3 rd 1996. Additional district and sessions Judge found him guilty of the attack on S P Singhal.

MP from Sewan has 40 criminal cases of murder, kidnapping and possession of illegal arms. He was arrested after the seizure of illegal arms from his home in Sewan.

He has been given life imprisonment for the charge of murder of a political activist in 1999. He has also been convicted for attacking CPI (ML) office in Sewan.

Currently he is serving life sentence in a kidnapping case. This year only Patna High Court ordered that trials of all the pending cases should take place speedily by a special court set up the state government in Sewan jail.

Shahabuddin and his bodyguards have been charged for attempt to murder and criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty plus illegal possession of arms under sections 307 and 353 of the IPC apart from section 27 of arms act.

Shahabuddin and his bodyguards opened fire on the then SP of Sewan when he reached Darauli Mathiya village on the receipt of information of disturbances and chased the armed men. The chased personnel fired on SP were later identified as Shahabuddin and his bodyguards.

He has been charged also for kidnapping and suspected murder of CPI (ML) worker Chhotelal Gupta.
