Runaway soldier arrested with Rs.5.9 mn
Raipur, March 24 (IANS) A Rashtriya Rifles soldier, who had decamped from Jammu and Kashmir with over Rs.5.9 million meant for his colleagues' salaries earlier this month, has been arrested in his home state of Chhattisgarh, police say.
Sudhir Kindo, 30, a resident of Jashpur district, was picked up by Chhattisgarh police at a bus stand Monday from the state's industrial town of Korba.
'The Rashtriya Rifles unit in Jammu and Kashmir had sought our help to track down its jawan, Kindo, who is accused of fleeing from there early this month after withdrawing Rs.59.5 lakhs (Rs.5.95 million) - which was the salary of his colleagues - from a bank,' T.R. Koshima, additional superintendent of police, Korba district, told IANS.
He said Kindo was assigned the duty of collecting his colleagues' salaries but instead of reaching the unit office, he fled and went to Chhattisgarh.
'We recovered the full amount, which he had kept in a bag, and then handed Kindo to a team of Rashtriya Rifles along with the money in Korba,' the officer added.
